Why I decided to get involved
It’s no secret that I’m one for the Great Outdoors. Over the past six months, I’ve made several lifestyle changes to benefit the environment including giving up my car for public transportation and cutting beef from my diet.
The Amazon Rainforest is in SERIOUS trouble; deforestation is happening at a rate of 1.5 acres per second. That’s equivalent to cutting down trees in an area the size of more than ONE AND A HALF FOOTBALL FIELDS PER SECOND! That’s a shocking, sad, and true fact.
Something needs to happen
This can’t continue or else thousands of species that call the Amazon their home will go extinct. In addition, trees are vital to our planet. As the biggest plants on the planet, they give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilize the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife. They also provide us with the materials for tools and shelter.
This is why I’ve partnered with One Tree Planted to create an Earth Day initiative in order to reforest the Amazon Rainforest. This organization plants one tree in the Amazon for every dollar donated! They are a non-profit organization so any money you donate goes straight towards reforestation. Planting a tree is one of the best things you can do for the environment.
My commitment to YOU
As I do not make enough from this blog to match donations yet, as an incentive to donate, I will be volunteering a half-hour of my time at Nature Trust Malta – NTM for every ten trees we plant over the next month (April 2017) in addition to my own donation to the campaign!
80% of the world’s forests are already destroyed. It’s time to act; now or never.
Wanderway Travel will start to take on a more environmentally-conscious mission. I ask that you please share with Facebook friends and family! Thank you!
